Frequently asked questions

How do you hit the exact size?
Target size divided by duration gives a total bitrate budget. We reserve a small share for audio and container overhead, encode the video at the remainder, and cap the encoder so the result stays under your number.
What is the Discord upload limit?
Discord’s File Attachments FAQ says accounts without Nitro can upload 20MB as of August 2026. Nitro Basic is 50MB and Nitro is up to 1GB. Discord says it is still experimenting, so a few accounts may be allowed more. Use the Discord page for the 20MB preset.
What size works for email?
Personal Gmail and Outlook.com both publish a 25MB attachment limit. Google Workspace and some company servers use a limit an admin chose, which can be lower. The 25MB preset matches the published consumer caps.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Everything runs on the hardware encoder already in your browser. If a file or setting is not supported, the tool says so right away — nothing extra is downloaded.
What is the difference between this and the desktop app?

Is it really free?
Yes. Every browser tool is free with no credits and no watermark. The file itself never leaves this device.
Do I have to sign in?
Slimvid has no accounts or sign-in. All tools work without registration. We only receive your email if you choose to submit a waitlist form. Videos stay in your browser.
What do you collect about my jobs?
Anonymous usage stats: which tool, file size, duration, resolution, codec, engine used and how long the job took, plus browser and device details such as the user-agent string. Never the video, never the file name. The privacy page lists every field. You can turn off automatic statistics on the privacy page or in the footer, without an account.
